Folklore Characters Wood Block Printing

This unit of learning allowed students to explore Irish folklore traditions through the medium of wood block printing. Through research into the spoken folklore tradition, along with researching written records, students chose a folklore story which they related to or found particularly interesting. This research was then developed through observational and portrait drawing to create a visual of a chosen character from their stories. The resultant drawing was developed into an edition of high-quality black and white and chine collé prints.
