In Her Hands

Exploring female identity through the overlooked contents of daily life.

This painting project explores identity through intimate still-life portraits, created by documenting the contents of handbags belonging to women close to me. Rather than depicting their faces, I chose to represent them through the personal objects they carry, items that often go unseen but speak about personality, daily rituals and emotional life. By focusing on handbags, which are traditionally gendered, the project highlights the quiet complexity of women's identities and the stories of the everyday. The work invites reflection on how we express who we are through what we choose to carry and how care and meaning live in even the smallest possessions.
